Worship

The congregation sings a joyful hymn at the second service.

Welcome to worship services at First Church! In all our services we strive to build closer relationships to a loving God, with each other, and with the world. We draw inspiration from Scripture, especially the life and teachings of Jesus. We hope you will find a spiritual home in one of our two different worship services.

Bulletins:

1st Sunday of Month Combined Service @ 10:00 am

Once a month we join together to give us the opportunity to connect with our faith family as we celebrate Holy Communion together. This service has traditional music with organ and the Sanctuary Choir.  Staffed nursery care will be available. Spiritual Friends for Pre-K through 2nd grade is offered after the Children’s Message.

First Service – 2nd Through Last Sundays @ 8:30 am

Our early service is a bit more traditional. It tends to be quieter and features classic hymns, the Sanctuary Choir, and organ music. We have hands-on items for children in our narthex to help them during worship.  Our Nursery staff will welcome our youngest little ones and our room is equipped with a speaker to hear the worship service. The service is also streamed to a screen in our Fellowship Hall.

Second Service (& Faith Formation for kids) – 2nd Through Last Sundays @ 10:15 am

Our later service is a bit more contemporary. This worship features our Finally at First praise band and more contemporary songs of worship. We offer a Faith Formation Sunday School program that commences after the Children’s Message. Hands-on items for children during worship. Our Nursery staff will welcome our youngest little ones and our room is equipped with a speaker to hear the worship service. The service is also streamed to a screen in our Fellowship Hall.

Summer Service – Sundays @ 9:00 am

From the 1st Sunday in June through Labor Day weekend in September, we have one service at 9 am every Sunday. We have hands-on items and activities available in our narthex for children to assist them during worship. Nursery care is available. There is a wide variety of music over the summer as different musical groups and soloists provide the music each Sunday.

Communion

Our church has an “open” communion table which means that everyone is welcome to come and celebrate Christ’s meal of love. We use grape juice and gluten free bread for the elements. We welcome children at the table as well, but also recognize that each family is free to determine how to interpret the communion tradition. Communion is offered at services on the first Sunday of the month.

The Vine Nepalese Church – Saturdays @ 9:00 am

Pastor Dan Raut leads a worship service that is attended by many Nepali-speaking Bhutanese refugees that have come to call Vermont home. There are approximately 50 members in The Vine Church, although attendance can grow up to 70. Pastor Dan also provides a number of supportive services to the members: giving them rides to the hospital, the grocery store, and the bank. The members of The Vine Church lean on each other and are a very supportive community. First Church is proud to host them for their worship service every Saturday at 9 am! The service is followed by a community meal.
